Overview

This brand-new EXPLORE workshop is for all teachers at primary and secondary school level who wish to extend their understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, to enhance and provide a bi-cultural learning environment for students in Aotearoa.

An understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty) is critical to working effectively within the education setting and classrooms in Aotearoa. Gaining an appreciation of the context, intentions and on-going significance of the Treaty enables teachers to recognise its applicability to their lives and work.

This one-day workshop provides participants with an understanding of why we have a Treaty, what it says, colonisation and its impacts, and current Treaty issues.

It also provides an opportunity to briefly consider personal responses and actions as a classroom teacher.
