Kia ora and 안녕하세요An-nyeong-ha-se-yo.

Support available for NZ schools to introduce and grow Korean language and culture!

Established in April 2012 in Auckland, New Zealand, the Korean Education Centre (KEC) represents the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea to promote and support the Korean language and culture in Aotearoa.
With funds from both the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Korea and the North Asia Centre of Asia-Pacific Excellence, the Korean Education Centre is proud to support NZ primary, intermediate and secondary schools offering Korean classes. Approximately forty schools across New Zealand offer Korean classes as of 2021 and the number is constantly growing with high interest in the culture, especially in K-pop and K-dramas.
The Korean Education Centre (KEC) also offers eight 2-hour evening Korean language classes at no cost starting from 6:00pm weekdays along with a Korean calligraphy class every Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:30pm for anyone interested in learning Korean language and culture. About 200 students are learning Korean each term at the Korean Education Centre. With growing demand from students, the Korean Education Centre is considering offering more classes gradually.
The Korean Education Centre will be celebrating its 10th anniversary next year.  We will continue striving to take the role of a platform for communication while actively supporting NZ schools to further grow Korean language and culture.

If you are interested in introducing Korean language and culture classes at your school, please do not hesitate to contact us:

Global LYNCs (Linking Youths through Net Communications)

Cultural Exchange Opportunity
New Zealand – Korea

Professor Keong Ku (Keimyung University) continues to invite New Zealand schools to participate in her cultural exchange project Global LYNCs (Linking Youths through Net Communications) in 2021.

After the successful introduction in Australia in 2015, the project was also introduced in New Zealand in 2018. The project has been successfully offering authentic learning opportunities through communication between sister schools in New Zealand and Korea, through regular video conference sessions for the past two years.

The project involves:

  • Matching your class with a class at a partner school in Korea
  • Regular ZOOM video conferencing sessions in English which you are invited to by email
  • Building strong, sustainable partnerships

Students will grow their:

  • Global awareness and competence
  • Intercultural knowledge, skills and understanding
  • ICT skills
  • Communication skills and collaboration skills

Teacher training and support with resources and technology will be provided.

This project is primarily intended for cultural exchange. Any school (primary, intermediate, or secondary) and teacher can participate. However, there is the possibility of adding a language component to the exchange if the students’ Korean language proficiency allows for it.

If you are interested to join or find out more about the project, please contact:
