New Zealand Chinese Short Film Contest for Schools


We are excited to invite you and your students to take part in the fourth New Zealand Primary and Secondary School Chinese Short Film Contest, brought to you by Future Learning Solutions - Centre for Languages in partnership with the New Zealand Chinese Language Teachers Association (NZCLTA).

Intended to encourage student interest and enthusiasm in learning Chinese, this year the theme is 'Having Fun with Chinese'.

With a deadline for submission of Friday 5 July,  it's a perfect Term 2 activity for your Chinese Language students to enhance their understanding of Chinese language and culture.

All entrants will be invited to attend the Awards Ceremony held in Auckland and awards will be given at both Primary and Secondary level for:

  • Best Film
  • Best Creative
  • Best Performance
  • Best Language
  • Best Guidance

Judges will be looking for films with a creative interpretation of the theme, a cohesive storyline, relevant and appropriate use of Chinese language and good technical quality.

Rules for entry

  1. Films must be submitted by a teacher via the submission form
  2. Only unlisted YouTube links will be accepted
  3. No more than 3 submissions per school


  1. Films must be no longer than 5 minutes

  2. Only Chinese language to be spoken in the film.

  3. Students can work in groups, with no limit on the number of members per group.

  4. Films must be 100% original material. Copyrighted music or images should not be used, unless there is proof of authorised use

  5. Dialogue must be original speech and not dubbed
